“If Republicans do press the nuclear button, then, they’d ensure that whichever party holds a bare majority in the Senate has the final say on who ends up on the Supreme Court.
“And though so much about American politics revolves around Donald Trump these days, this is one situation that really doesn’t. Though Trump’s unpopularity is one factor hurting Gorsuch’s ability to win over Democrats, the political system has been headed toward this showdown for a very long time.”
