“But in the case of both Apple and Google, their uses of Helvetica Neue are so prominent that they’re almost indiscriminate, and as a result both of these efforts skirt that thin line between aspiration and desperation. Where many graphic designers would mix in additional typefaces or even just different weights of Helvetica Neue to achieve an optimal reading experience and a balanced aesthetic, both Apple and Google seem overeager to use the thin and ultra light weights wherever they can.”

After Apple’s performance at WWDC, the tide of media opinion seems to be turning against the company whose every word once made journalists salivate. Since the announcement of iOS7:

Dave Winer (inventor of RSS) stated that he isn’t happy being an Apple shareholder.

TechCrunch reports on Apple’s extraordinarily aggressive (and negative) attitude towards developers.

As does Mashable.

The Verge deemed iOS7 “Simply confusing” and a “misstep”.

And Mashable polls “underwhelmed” Apple fans.

EDIT: Wired jumps on too, looking at the reaction on Wall Street.
