Links 2-23-11: TBD staff dumped, Easier bibliographies, Compelled consent, A world without oil
Top of the Interwebs:
Today Allbritton Communications’ beleaguered TBD.com layed off most of its staff. Well, at least it was the top of my interwebs. TBD was the great social experiment in DC; a group of media outlets turned into one community-powered converged news source. At least it was before Allbritton systematically removed its limbs due to advertising failure. First eliminating community advertising, than decreasing the focus on showcasing community content, then returning all the non-web media back to its old branding.
With the website folded under the banner of a single TV news source, it was clear that any new news, would be bad. According to WeLoveDC, the entire community team (once considered part of the core of the concept), along with all the news and sports reporters, were laid off. I’m not sure whose left.
