There was a lot of excitement surrounding Legends of Tomorrow’s first season, but for all the fun of its mish-mashed premise, things never really seemingly clicked until the end—by which point, most people had already checked out. Thankfully, last night’s second season premiere was a strong new start, and fun as hell.

Captain Cold and Heat Wave are stealing Kryptonite! They’re fighting ridiculous immortal Vandal Savage! Hawkman is there, and he fights with a mace! It’s Rip Freaking Hunter, the most ludicrous character in DC Comics, and he’s played by Rory from Doctor Who! There is crazy time travel paradoxes! It’s a freaking superhero team-up time-travel adventure in the form of a live-action TV show! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
