Amazon to Buy Whole Foods in $13.4 Billion Deal
Amazon buying Whole Foods is the smartest acquisition made by a tech company in a while.
– It can cut costs rapidly (though sadly at the expense of labor) through automation, something it already has tested and knows it can do.
– It now has numerous reliable distribution hubs in major urban centers whose high rental costs can now be offset by Prime Now orders.
– It can likely cut product costs by applying that Amazon magic to the Whole Foods supply chain system.
– It now has serious retail outposts which it can use to test a variety of projects in, and which people are used to spending extended time in.
– And finally, I’d bet you that the geographic areas that are “Whole Foods Customers” and “Amazon Prime Customers” have a lot of overlap.
The deal is the online giant’s latest push into food retail.
