I think The Internet of Things is a phenomenon mostly being created to counteract the negative effects of the internet age. Like: You got a computer and a game console and now you sit in front of screens all day every day for everything. Now you also have the Internet of Things, whose job seems to mostly be about reminding you of stuff you forget to do because you are on the computer all the time.
The Internet of Things gives me a bunch of tiny robots to say things via notification and vibration along the lines of: Hey buddy, you’re a fatass, get up and walk some steps. Hey man, stop slouching all the time, you slob. Hey, you need to water me or I’m going to embarrass you by tweeting about it. Hey, you keep your house so cold that you’re killing all the penguins, fix that. Hey, what is this crap you’re drinking, stop drinking this.
I sometimes worry that the end point of the Internet of Things is just a really judgmental electronic Navi.
